This was a very historic church in Dorset which had many existing stained glass windows, mostly Victorian, depicting very traditional subject matter.

We were asked to design for the only remaining window without stained glass and we agreed with the Parochial Church Council that the design should follow the sequence of windows depicting a figure in each of the four sections.

All the other windows depicted male biblical figures or warriors, and it was decided that this window should celebrate motherhood. The section illustrated here represents a Sudanese mother and child, as the parish is twinned with a village in Sudan. One of the priests in the parish was a missionary there, and he had plenty of photographs and memories to help us with the design.
